Frugal & Natural Cleaning Recipes G-K:


Garbage Disposal Cleaner and Deodorizer:
  • Recipe 1: To freshen your garbage disposal, peel a lemon and put the peel down the drain. Run the disposal for several minutes. The peel will naturally dissolve built up food, kill odor causing bacteria, and leave the kitchen fresh. An orange can also be used.
  • Recipe 2: Pour 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup hot white vinegar down garbage disposal. Let site for 5 minutes then run hot water down the disposal.
  • Recipe 3: Make white vinegar ice cubes by freezing full strength white vinegar in an ice cube tray. Run several cubes down the disposal while flushing with cold water.

Grease Remover:
  • Recipe 1: For a counter top or stove with a build up of grease, wet sponge or cloth with full strength white vinegar. This will cut the grease. If grease is heavily built up, lay soaked cloth on area for a few minutes before wiping up.
  • Recipe 2: Use lemon juice, vinegar, or sprinkle with borax and scrub with a scrub brush.
  • Recipe 3: Combine 1/2 teaspoon washing soda, 1/2 teaspoon castile soap, 3 tablespoons vinegar, and 2 cups hot water. Mix and pour into spray bottle. Spray and wipe surface clean.
Grout Cleaner:
Clean grout by letting full strength white vinegar site on the area for a few minutes (or longer if needed) then scrub with an old tooth brush. Depending on the surface it may be helpful to soak a cloth or paper towel in the vinegar then place on the surface.
