Frugal & Natural Cleaning Recipes T-Z:

Toilet Bowl Cleaner:
  • Recipe 1: For a clean bowl, pour in a few cups of white vinegar before bed and let it sit overnight, in the morning brush with a toilet brush, and flush. The acetic acid in the vinegar will kill viruses, germs, bacteria and mold; as well as dissolving mineral deposits.
  • Recipe 2: Make a thin paste of borax and lemon juice. Flush the toilet to wet the bowl and rub the paste unto the toilet bowl ring. Let this set for a few hours. Scrub and then flush to rinse. Make sure the paste is thin but not runny.
  • Recipe 3: Sprinkle baking soda into the bowl, then spray with vinegar and brush with a toilet brush.
  • Recipe 4: Flush toilet to wet the sides of the bowl. Sprinkle 1 cup borax around the toilet bowl, then spray with 1/2 cup white vinegar. Leave solution on for a few hours or overnight then scrub with a toilet brush.

Wallpaper Remover:
Remove wallpaper easily by using a paint roller to wet the surface thoroughly with a solution of equal parts of white vinegar and hot water, or spray on until saturated.

Window Cleaner:
  • Recipe 1: Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a clean spray bottle. Wipe with old newspapers for a lint free shine. Note: Can also use full strength vinegar for very soiled and / or greasy surfaces.
  • Recipe 2: Fill a clean spray bottle with Club Soda. Spray on the window and wipe off with crumpled newspaper. This can be used bubbly or flat.
  • Recipe 3: Fill a clean spray bottle with 1/2 cup lemon juice and 2 cups water. Spray on and wipe off with crumpled newspaper.
  • Recipe 4: Fill spray bottle with 1/2 cup vinegar or lemon juice, 2 cups water, and 1/4 teaspoon vegetable oil based soap (like Murphy's Oil Soap)
  • Recipe 5: Mix 1/2 cup cornstarch with 2 quarts of warm water. Apply with a sponge then wipe with a cloth or towel. Note: Don't use when windows are in the sun or warm, because this solution will dry too fast and streak.
  • Recipe 6: Combine 1/4 cup white vinegar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 1 quart of warm water. Can be applied with a sponge or sprayed on. Wipe with crumpled newspaper.
  • Recipe 7: Rubbing alcohol can be sprayed on as a glass cleaner also. Use in well ventilated areas.
